Lamayuru to Alchi

Trek Highlights

This trek is different from others, it offers an opportunity to interact with local people and also the opportunity to visit the oldest Lamayuru monastry and famous Alchi monastry, Founded by Lotsawa Rinchen Sangpo.Alchi being the region most unique artistic treasures dating back to the 11 century. At the beginning of the trek there is gradual walk up to Prinkiti La and also many ascends and decends.

Day 1: Leh - Lamayuru-wanla-(3250)4 hrs
Drive from leh to lamayuru through sham valley (3 - 4) hours. Visit Lamayuru monastry and start walking towards wanla village. At the beginning of trek there is gradual walk up to prinkiti La (3750m), good view of Zanskar Mountains from top and some descends will take.

Day 2: Wanla-Hinju - 5 hrs
After breakfast we walk along the river on metallic road for an hour to reach Fanjila, (3400m). Walk along the houses for an hour and the trail goes down to the river and a pleasant walk to reach Hinju village.

Day 3: Hinju-Sumda Chenmo-5-6 hrs
From Hinju we have to walk up to the valley until we reach Konski La (4950m).From the pass you have beautiful panoramic views of snow capped mountains of Zanskar range and view all the back to the prinkiti la..From the pass the trail decends steep before reaching to village Sumda Chenmon

Day 4: Sumda Chenmo-Sumda Choon
The trail follows the river as it curves around to the east. The path is little hard as we have to follow the trail through the vegetation of sea buckthorn, wollow and rose. Above the village of Sumda choon there is nice gompa, whose design and painting are similar to Alchi gompa.

Day 5: Sumda Choon-Alchi
We have to follow the trail steeply up to the top of Stakspi La (4950m) the route to the top are ascending steep and demanding. From the pass there are beautiful views of mountains and also some nice views of sham village. Easy walk for 2-3 hours to reach village Alchi.Visit Alchi monastry and likir and drive back to leh.
