Lamayuru -Darcha trekSeason: July-Oct Grade: Moderate-Strenuous Duration: 20 days Max Alt: 5150m
Trek Highlights
This trek starts from Lamayuru monastery, which is the oldest in Ladakh and also has the opportunity to visit Alchi and Likir monastery before starting. The route through Shingola 5100m is very popular trail into zanskar. We can able to visit Photoksar and Lingshed, which is region, most isolated villages and also zangla and Karsha monasteries.Day 1: Leh - Lamayuru-6-7 hrs by jeep Leave Leh in the morning. Visit Alchi and Likir monastery on the way. Arrive Lamayuru by afternoon, visit Lamayuru monastery and overnight in camp at Lamayuru (3420m). Day 2: Lamayuru - Wanla (4 hrs) Lamayuru - Wanla (4 hrs) After breakfast start walking via small pass of Prinkti La (3750m), which offer nice views of zanskar mountains and then steep descends leads to Wanla (3250m) via village Shilla. Overnight in camp. Rest of day for exploring. Day 3: Wanla – Hanupatta (6 hrs) The trail leads through a narrow gorge via Phansila (3420m) before reaching Hanupatta (3760m). Day 4: Hanupatta - Photoksar (6 - 7 hrs)
After breakfast leave Hanupatta, cross the river and start ascent toward Sir Sir La (4800m) The pass offer views of zanskar range and Singe La (5050m). From the pass the trail descend towards village of Photoksar (4200m), which is situated above the stream.Day 5: Photoskar - Singayla base (7- 8 hrs) Today the trail start ascent up to Singayla 5050m which give spectacular views of surrounding mountains and wide spread valley. From top the trail decent towards Singayla base. Day 6: Singay La base – Lingshed (5- 6 hrs) Today we have to ascent and decent two passes Kyukpa la 4420m and Margum La 4450m before reaching Lingshed. Lingshed has a gompa housing of 50 monks founded bt Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo. Day 7: Lingshed - Snertse via Hanuma La 4900 m (7-8 hrs) Walk through Lingshed village, towards snertse for some time and then start ascent towards Hanuma la 4900m. The trail from the pass towards Snertse is Zig Zag type. Day 8: Snertse - Hanumil via Parfi la 4150 m (5-6 hrs) After a good breakfast start ascending towards Parfila.Reach Hanumil (3400m) after a good walk down to the bank of Zanskar river. Day 9: Hanumil - Pishu (4-5 hrs)
The walk from Hanumil to Pishu is easy along the Zanskar River and follow it all the way to Pishu (3470 m).Day 10: Pishu - Padum (6-7 hrs) The trail from Pishu to Padum progress along the zangskar river. On the way we visit Karsha monastery located on a hill side with view of entire valley. Day 11: Rest day Day 12: Padum - mune (6 hrs) From Padum we continue for Mune via Bardan gompa which is build on a rock. Bardan gompa is famous for its engraved prayer wheel. Day 13: Mune - Ichar (5-6 hrs) From Mune to Raru the trail is quite easy. Thereafter the trail follows the river leading to Ichar village 3650. Day 14: Ichar-Purni (5-6 hrs) After breakfast the trail have some ascent and decent but not real difficult. En route there are many climbs and falls as we cross some small side rivers leading to Surle and Cha village. Day 15: Puri- Phuktal - Purni (3-4 hrs) Easy day, visit Phuktal gompa and return back to Purni. Day 16: Purni - Tabley (6 hrs) Follow the trail along the right bank of river, pass through Tethaa village and Kuru village and Tangze village and arrive in Tabley where we will camp. Day 17: Tabley – Lakung (7-8 hrs) Today the trail pass through village of Kargyak on the left bank of river. The path then leads towards grazing pasture land of 4450m Lakung. Day 18: Lakung - Ramjak 4290m (6-7 hrs) Today is difficult day as we have to ascent towards Shingo la 5100m which offer spectacular views of mountains. Decent down, arrive in village Rajmak through Chumik Nakpo. Day 19: Rumjak - Pal lamo (5 hrs) Today we continue walking along the right bank of river and reached Pal Lamo after crossing a river at the Zanskar Sumdo. Camp for last night of our trek. Day 20: Pal lamo - Darcha 3350m (3 hrs) The last day of our trek leads through Rarik village and arrive Darsha on Leh Manali highway. |
