Trek Highlights


Rumtse This trek starts from Rumtse and finishes at Kibber, a little village in Spiti. Spiti village is regarded as one of the highest situated mountain village in the world. This trek passes through Tsokar and Tsomoriri lake, nomadic encampments and also opportunity to see wild life. The highest pass in this trek is Parang la (5800m) in altitude. Beside this two other passes which is over 5400m, Kyamayuri la 5420m and Yalung la 5450m.It is more demanding and need to be acclimatized properly before starting.

Day 1: Leh - Rumtse (3 hrs by car)- Kyamar 4050 m (4 hrs walk) We drive from Leh to Rumtse in the morning and start walking from rumtse to kyamar. Overnight at Kyamar.

Day 2: Kyamar- Tisaling 4200 m (6-7 hrs)
After a good breakfast, we begin with gradual ascent towards Kamur La (4800 m), which gives a spectacular view of the Changthang range. From the pass, we descend down. Here we might come across nomads with their herds. we then ascends towards Mandalchan La (4850 m) and then easy decends to camp site of Tisaling.

Day 3: Tisaling - Ponganabu 4250 m (6 hrs)
Tisaling The third pass is Shibuk La (4900 m). From the top of the pass, we have an incredible view of the surrounding mountains and Tsokar Lake. It’s approximately a 4 hrs walk to the Tsokar lake. Overnight at ponganagu.

Day 4: Ponganagu - Nuruchan 4300 m (6 hrs)
We follow the jeep road towards Tsokar Lake. Along the salty shores of the lake, we have the opportunity to see some of the endangered migratory birds of the world. We walk straight to the right of the lake, until Nuruchan.

Day 5: Nuruchan- Gyama Barma 5100 m (7-8 hrs)
After a good breakfast we gradually ascends towards Horlam Kongka La (4900 m).from the pass an easy decends decends to Rajungkaru, we will have the opportunity to encounter several Tibetan nomad settlements.We will continue to ascend towards Kyamayuru La (5410 m). From the pass we descend gradually to the valley towards our campsite at Gyamar Barma (5150 m). Night temperature can be freezing due to high altitude camp site.

Day 6: Gyama Barma - Gyamar 5200 m (3-4 hrs)
Nuruchan After breakfast, we head to our next pass, Kartse La (5300 m). We then slowly ascending towards Gyamar la and enjoy a beautiful views of snow capped mountains.The trail decends down towards the valley of Gyamar.

Day 7: Gyamar – Korzok 4500 m (7 hrs)
After breakfast we gradually ascend towards the highest pas Yalung Nyaulung La (5450 m).From the pass we have beautiful view of Tsomoriri lake.We descend slowly to the Korzok Phu, the summer pasture of the Korzok people and then to Korzok (Tsomoriri lake)Overnight at Tsomoriri lake.

Day 8: Rest day at Tsomoriri Lake.

Day 9: korzok to Kyangdam (4 hrs).
After breakfast walk along the shore of Tsomoriri lake, reaching Kyangdam at the south end of Tsomoriri lake. Night halt at Tsomoriri lake.

Day 10
Kyangdam to nurboo sumdo (5 hrs).
After breakfast walk straight, cross the river and reached Nurbo Sumdo after passing a stream. More chance to see wildlife.

Day 11: Nurboo Sumdo to Getpa Buzak (6 hrs).
Walk along the left side of river for some time and then the trail ascends and decends leads towards Getpa Buzak.

Day 12: Getpa Buzak to Tharang Yokma (5-6 hrs).
Today we have some ups and downs and then easy walk towards Tharang Yokma.

Day 13: Tharang Yokma to Kharsa Gongma (5-6 hrs).
Today we have to walk through an arid landscape for some time and then walk along the river, reach kharsa gongma.

Day 14: Kharsa gongma to Dakden - (6 hrs).
Start ascending towards Parang La (5800m) the highest pass in this trek.The passes offer very nice views of surrounding mountains and ten the trail decends down towards Dakden.

Day 15: Dakden to Tangtak (5 hrs).
Walk down to the stream, a narrow George and then the trail lead towards Tangtak after a steep ascends.

Day 16: Tangtak to kibber (4 hrs).
After breakfast walk up towards a small pass and then follow the trail straight toward a small village. Cross the river and reach kibber our final destination.
